Laura & Jonny Have a Great Anniversary in Fergus VW!

Friday 10 April 2015 – Sunday 12 April 2015

We collected Fergus and spent an amazing day in the sun on tour of “Donside”; north to Inverurie, following the sun on our “wild camping” trip.  Enjoyed Fergus’ drive, making use of all the quieter country roads which got you used to gears, turnings, brakes, and speed, all taken at a relaxing leisurely pace, adding to the whole “Fergus Experience!”

Driving into the sun following the “Queen Victoria Heritage Trail” out to Queen Victoria Viewpoint. WOW!! What a view! 🙂 Continuing the Deeside route to Ballater we explored the surrounding roads around the Baloral Estate, absolutely stunning and we saw two deer!!  We moved on and found a wild camping spot – “Jonny’s Secret Campsite”.  Idyllic spot which the Queen was out! Got Fergus’ pop-top set up and camped for the evening by the river with a fire – cheese and oatcakes with wine from our yummy hamper! 🙂  As the sunset left the starts came out – we even saw a shotting star! *  So much natural beauty!  A comfy sleep although very cold due to our “wild camping” style.

We hit the road again through chillier winds.  Stunning views as we explored Glenshee (pit-stop for lunch).  As we then set up our second day camp fire – the hailstones arrived! We moved on and chased the sun again east …. Ballater, Aboyne, Banchory, Stonehaven, Aberdeen, Inverurie and Bennachie as the sunset!

Total fulfilment of a boy’s dream (Jonny) – a great way to enjoy Scotland and take it all in at a leisurely pace.  Due to the unpredictable nature of the Scottish climate we would likely venture to a campsite next time … this was not our idea this time around and our days with Fergus have been absolutely amazing “wild camping on the open road!”
We loved the “Campervan” theme bedding and the hamper was yummy! Full of essentials.  Great to have chairs to sit outside.  Great customer service whenever we contacted DCC. Thanks DCC! 🙂
