24th June 2014
It seemed a good idea in the beginning! ….
I was persuaded by a good friend to join “Finzean Ladies Team” (8 members) to walk the Kiltwalk (26 miles) in aid of children’s charities. From Duthie Park, Aberdeen to Potarch Bridge on Royal Deeside. How difficult could it be?? … after having previously done the Moonwalk, Edinburgh I thought it would be a “walk in the park!” WRONG!
So, new trainers bought, we suffered the 6.00 am mornings for the recommended training schedule over a period of approximately 4 months! Many blisters emerged!
Deeside Classic Campers and Finzean Ladies’ Team opened a “Just Giving Page”. A competition was run whereby a donation of £5.00 or more to the Deeside Classic Campers donation page got you into the prize draw for a FREE WEEKEND in a camper of your choice!
The big day arrived on 1 June 2014. We were ready! Kiltwalk t-shirt and kilts worn proudly we set off in the blazing summer heat.
The organisers did a great job! They had organised six “pit-stops” along the way for refreshment, toilet break, and to change our soaking socks and blooded plasters!
It took myself with my walking companion “Effervescent Alison”, (Emily my oldest daughter joined us at Banchory and ended up completing the rest of the walk as my coach!) just over 7 hours to complete.
A well deserved rest with a plate full of stovies washed down with a glass of champers went down very well!
It was a fantastic day! DCC managed to raise £607.00 and Finzean Ladies’ Team raised £550.39! A grand total of £1157.39
WELL DONE TO EVERYONE WHO TOOK PART!
Huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated!
That medal means the world to me!
