A Beginner’s Guide to a Classic VW Campervan Adventure in Scotland!

The Scottish lochs, glens, magnificent beaches, ancient forests and the open road await you! There is no other iconic, stylish, funky, and nostalgic way to travel than a classic VW campervan! Get ready for the trip of a lifetime and the fact that EVERYONE will wave at you! We warn you however, that your face will hurt from smiling! Our camper guests have said in their feedback, “It was the best holiday we have ever had! …. a trip of a lifetime!”

Where do you want to go/see/do? How about the Whisky Trail, the Castle Trail, drive the Northcoast 500, or go island hopping to the western isles! Whatever you decide we can help you plan your road trip from start to finish! We can recommend campsites and which pub/restaurant to rest at to quench your thirst and to excite your palate, from surf to turf! We are Part of the Privilege Scheme  as members of the Camping & Caravanning Club and pass on our campsite discounts to you. Alternatively, just turn the key and see where the road takes you.

Choose between one of our classic camper boys; Hamish or Fergus VWs, or our modern campervan Murdo T6 VW.  There is room for four adults/2 adults, 3 children in Hamish or Murdo VWs, and 3 adults/2 adults, 2 children in Fergus VW.  All our campers have pop-top roofs for sleeping and for extra head room.  Our campers have been modernised with power steering and upgraded brakes, making them great fun to drive! They romp over the Lecht and Glenshee Ski Centres, their favourite destination is through the Cairngorm Mountain Range to Aviemore. From there, you can star burst to anywhere.

Relax in the airframe awning, giving you that extra space to relax using your complimentary outside table and chairs, with a glass of something cold in your hand.  Great for storing wellies/walking boots, pushchairs, and hanging up your wetsuit after your swim!

Why not hire one of our bike racks; take your own bikes or hire one of our mountain bikes?

If your baby/toddler car seat has isofix or is too big to fit into our camper, you can hire one of ours – we have it covered.  Our younger’s car seats are british manufactured and meet with the legal safety standards.

To get your Scottish VW adventure well and truly off with style, order one of our luxury hampers from our local Finzean Farm Shop full of local delicacies.

Get a great night’s sleep with our bedding pack; (double duvet, pillow, bath towel). Our duvet sets are great fun being campervan themed and very cosy, or choose the sleeping bag bedding pack option.

I personally designed all my campervans down to the finest detail to maximise on space as well as originality and perfection.  They are not only vintage, but funky, sleek, cosy and very cool! The fixtures and furnishings are of the highest standard.  These include the “rock’n’roll double bed downstairs,  bed space upstairs,  a fridge/freezer, gas hob, sink, cooking utensils, pots/pans, campervan themed plates/bowls/cups and cutlery. With CD players, radio, iPod connection, and USB ports, (additional parking sensors on Murdo T6 VW), simply you have everything you need.

All our campers have their own heating systems for your comfort and relaxation.  Hamish and Murdo VWs have DVD players, sip your hot chocolate, get out the popcorn out and enjoy a film if the weather is not so good outside.

We provide you with a t-towel, a washing up cloth, washing up liquid and hand sanitiser.  We also pop in a cosy blanket for extra comfort.  There is also a lantern in the camper as well as an old fashioned map! Each camper comes with one gas canister for the gas cooker and fridge (and heater in Fergus VW).

Check carefully what the camper includes and decide on extras you’ll need to bring. Clothing, we recommend a waterproof jacket (just in case!) fleece, t-shirt, shorts (you never know!) trainers/walking boots/wellies and crocs/flip flops to slip on/off to get to the shower block. Don’t forget your food and drink, and toiletries are essentials.

Think minimal and pack carefully.  Consider using carrier bags to carry clothing.  Wet wipes are useful, as well as “midgy spray” during the months of June to September.

Chill out, slow down, relax, you’re on a classic VW campervan holiday!  And besides, you’ll look hip and cool coasting along in Hamish or Fergus VWs, and tooting the horn at passing admirers is all part of the VW culture!

The top speed in our classics is 45 mph.  Murdo T6 VW is the latest generation of campervans providing a modern driving experience with excellent fuel economy. Murdo T6 VW can travel up to 60 mph on UK roads and 70 mph on motorways.   All our our campervans are right hand drive with manual transmission.

There are no trespassing laws in Scotland and you are able to sleep in a public place in your campervan.  However, look out for signs that say ‘no overnight parking’ or ‘no camping’.  You’ve got the freedom to choose whether you go “off the beaten track” or head for a well-chosen campsite that’s perfect for your needs.

We are not short of breathtaking views or beautiful beaches in Scotland.  Park-up for a few hours, put the kettle on, have a leisurely picnic, or an overnight stay.

And follow a few sensible rules – don’t light a campfire, don’t leave any litter, respect the outdoors and other campers, and park up safely away from traffic and the side of the road. Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but pictures, kill nothing but time!

Have a think about where you want to go for your Scottish road trip.  Choose your destination and decide which site is best for you – family-friendly, secluded location, magnificent views, city-based, or coastal?   Do you want to experience Camping in the Forest, park up overlooking turquoise waters of a beach, camp close to a river, or the perfect pitch with the perfect view?   Most campsites offer electric hook up, with water collection facilities, as well as excellent shower and toilet blocks.  There might even be a campsite shop for those camping essentials, or a pub/restaurant.  For your discount on campsites check these out here; Camping & Caravanning Club.

To book one of our Volkswagen campervans click through to the camper of your choice from Our Campers page.  Alternatively select the “Book Now” button and pop your dates into our calendar to see our campervans’ availability.  Follow the booking instructions, choose any optional extras, and make your non-refundable deposit payment of £150 to secure your booking.  Alternatively, please do not hesitate to either phone or e-mail the office (01330 850555) ( and we would be delighted to help you!

There is no mileage stipulation, you can therefore roam at will, we just ask that you stay within Scotland.

I am sorry, but we do not accept pets in our campers.

Now the exciting part! Start counting the days until your Scottish VW campervan adventure and get planning and packing!  On collection of your camper you will be given a full demonstration and explanation on how your camper works, from pop-top to electric plug in.

Whether it be a weekend, mid-week or a longer open road adventure, get ready for laughter and fun!  Enjoy the freedom, the open road, the scenic views, the picnic stop-offs, the starry skies, the sunrises, the sunsets, the “off the beaten track”, the campervan cooking, the ‘coolness’ and the family time or romantic get away. What are you waiting for?  Get the wine in the fridge, the key in the ignition, and…… you’re off!   And you know what?  You’ll definitely be back for more! (10% discount to repeat customers!)

We look forward to seeing you!
